Watch out DXG, you've got a new rival in town, and it goes by the name Lancerlink. Just when we thought you had the cheap-o HD camcorder market all locked up, in comes this firm with a rather chintzy looking camcorder capable of logging clips at 1,440 x 1,080 (30fps) or 1,280 x 720 (60fps) in H.264 format. The 5-megapixel sensor can also snag stills, but considering that there's just 90MB of free memory within, you should probably keep an SD / MMC / SDHC card nearby. You'll also find a 3-inch LCD monitor, HDTV (component) output, USB connectivity and a rechargeable battery good for around four hours of use. The worst part, however, is the ¥49,800 ($474) price tag that's attached to the July-bound DDV-1080HD, which makes it a few hundies more than most of DXG's awfully similar collection.

Uh oh, DXG's creeping its way up into luxury territory. Earlier this year, we saw the outfit dish out a craptacular $149 HD camcorder, and just a few months back we were introduced to the $169 DXG-569V. Now, it'll take another Hamilton in order to rightfully claim its newest unit, the DXG-567V. The pocket-friendly cam is available in four different hues, ships with rechargeable AA batteries and uploads directly to YouTube and other video sharing sites without much hassle at all. DXG claims that this bugger captures video at 1,280 x 720 (30fps), but even at $179, we have our doubts about the overall quality. Better watch out though, by this time next year you'll see DXG perched up beside Sony, Panasonic and the rest of the respected gang.

Spy shots of what could be the Nikon D700 have been floating around for a while now, but it's only today that we've gotten a full-on body shot of the DSLR. Rumored specs basically paint the unit as a D300 body with the D3's FX sensor crammed inside, and there's speculation that the lens pictured is an upgraded version of Nikon's AF-S 24-120mm VR unit. We're also hearing that it'll be introduced in August and go on sale in December for $3300, but that's all speculation until this thing actually hits.

The Canon PowerShot SD770 IS is an ultra-point and shoot a 3x zoom and a target of 10.0 million pixels CCD imager. Functional, the device is based on Canon-Legacy’s position of cost reduction, reduced spec-SD-700 models in the series.
With a few high-profile, heavily hyped around the same fraternity, it is easy for the Canon PowerShot SD770 is ignored. Sitting exciting new interface between developed and a lot of new technologies in SD790 and 890, and the budget Bombardier SD1100 IS - followed by a camera was in almost all the ‘best value’ list.
The SD770 is a return to much of what the original ELPH was: a simple camera with pocketable No Frills Snapshot capture in the eye. Canon's aiming for an all-new, entry-level DSLR class with the Digital Rebel XS / 1000D, so don't expect to have your mind blown by the specs here, but that said, Canon isn't just pussyfooting around in this market segment. LetsGoDigital calls the XS the XSi's 'twin brother' on the outside, with only minor differences between the two like the smaller 2.5-inch screen on the XS. On the inside, the XS is fairly similar to the XTi, with a 10.1 megapixel resolution, but Live View, DIGI III and auto ISO to keep things interesting. The 17.7 ounce weight is the lightest ever for a Canon DSLR, with a tiny battery and only SD card memory, and the price should be similarly miniscule when the XS lands this July.

We got a quick look at JVC's new AVCHD camcorders today, the GD-HD40, GZ-HD30 and GZ-HD10. Of note, the HD40 comes complete with a dock for extra hookups like FireWire, and the HD40 and HD30 can shoot video in MPEG-2 for higher quality and easier editing. JVC has done some serious work on noise reduction on all of the cameras, but from the samples shown, it comes at the cost of detail -- some of the vids we saw looked more like watercolors or 3D renders than true video. Hopefully that's something you'll be able to configure to your liking, and we're glad JVC is leaving MPEG-2 on here to avoid compression that might exacerbate the problem further. That said, most users are going to be very pleased with the kind of color and low noise they can get at night or in badly-lit rooms. The cameras are certainly small for their feature sets, but at about a pound apiece they feel pretty heavy for their size. Otherwise the build is standard JVC fare -- not too fancy, not too plain. The Minox TLX is set to be quietly retired from service. The unsuspecting subminiature camera will be met on a foggy bridge at dawn, where it will be relieved of its last roll of 8x11mm film and swiftly shot between its dials with an umbrella gun.
The reason is, of course, obsolescence. The classic spy cam is no longer miniature -- let alone subminiature -- compared to the average cellphone, and nobody but collectors are buying them. The last few models off the line will be sold for £400 ($790) instead of the normal £900 ($1770). Rumors of a unit signed by Georgi Markov are unconfirmed.

As a phone we're looking at quad-band GSM (9-hours talk / 380 hours standby) and tri-band UMTS/HSDPA 850/1900/2100 on the C905a worldphone variant. It also comes packing an auto-rotating, 2.4-inch scratch-resistant QVGA display, aGPS with Google Maps, A2DP stereo Bluetooth, TV-out, 2GB of included Memory Stick Micro (M2), and WiFi with DLNA support when this slider is loosed upon the globe in Q4.

JVC's disk-based Everio lineup of HD camcorders are being met by a trio of newcomers this morning. The 120GB GD-HD40 ($1,300) and 80GB GZ-HD30 ($1,000) offer 10- and 6-hours of full 1,920 x 1,080 / 17Mbps AVCHD recordings, respectively, from a 1/3-inch, 2.68 megapixel CMOS sensor -- a first for the previously all-CCD based family. They can also record in an editing software-friendly 27Mbps MPEG-2 TS format if desired. The AVCHD-only GZ-HD10 ($800) model scales back the disk to 40GB, the lens, LCD, and sensor to achieve the lower price tag. All three offer 10x, Konica Minolta HD optical zoom lenses, an accessory shoe, up-converted 1080/60p HDMI out, and a microSDHC slot. Available in August, that's when.

Aiptek is making a habit of bringing portable HD recording to some seriously affordable levels. The HDV21X Action HD 1080p High Definition Camcorder w/ Optical Zoom (known as the AHD Z500 Plus in Europe) records H.264 HD video (1,440 x 1080, 16 x 9) on a 5 megapixel sensor at 30 frames per second and 720P at 60 frames all for a paltry $199.99 at your local Wal-Mart. Expect to get up to 8 hours of 1080p video on a 32GB SDHC card. As for still images, the Z500 shoots at 8 megapixels and even sports a macro mode for both video and still. Canon EOS Rebel XS 10MP entry-level D-SLR
Canon’s EOS Rebel XSi, the twelve-megapixel D-SLR announced back in January, has gained a sibling in the form of the Rebel XS. Replacing the existing Rebel XT, the XS increases the resolution from 8 to 10-megapixels and the preview screen from 1.8 to 2.5-inches. It also gains the XSi’s Live View, which allows photographers to frame their shots via the LCD rather than having to use the optical viewfinder.
Also carried over is the Digic III image processor, which in the XSi boosted start-up time to just 0.1s enabled up to 6/53 (Raw/JPEG) using continuous shooting mood at 3fps. Canon are yet to confirm the XS start-up time, but it too can manage an unlimited 3fps burst rate and has improved battery life. There’s also a 7-point autofocus system.
Pricing is yet to be confirmed - though Canon suggest it’ll be in the same range as the XT it replaces, which would peg it at around $630 to $740 - but we do know that there will be a beginners starter-kit that includes an image stabilization lens with the Rebel XS body. Specifically, it will include the EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS lens, also by Canon.

Pentax is ready to release its Optio W60 compact digital camera in Japan. This waterproof digicam can survive underwater within 4 meters for 2 hours. Available in ocean blue and silver, the 10MP camera comes with 5x optical zoom lens, a 2.5-inch LCD, supports up to ISO 1600 and HD video recording. It is expected to be available on June 27th, 2008 for around Yen 40,000.

Uh, this is a Minox? It's not that we can't read labels, but considering the outfit's yawn-inducing offerings of late, we're a little stunned to see something so irresistible come out of its doors. The June-bound Rolleiflex AF 5.0 is a 'fully functioning, high precision replica of the world famous Rolleiflex 6x6 camera (scale 1:2),' and just like its inspiration, it produces square photographs and boasts a functioning hand crank. Thanks to modern technology, this edition steps it up with a 5-megapixel sensor, LCD monitor and a miniSD slot. Word on the street puts the black version at €299 ($461), while the entirely more stylish red model will demand €30 ($46) more. Still cheaper than an antique, we'd wager.

Flip's leaked Mino camcorder is official, and its biggest new feature is that it is Everywhereable -- a new buzzword from Flip which would be completely Web 2.0 if only it didn't have so many vowels.
Thankfully, Flip has continued in its less is more approach, and the changes from the previous Flips are incremental. The Mino keeps the minimal button layout, but now those buttons are touch sensitive instead of clicky. The camera's resolution is still 640 x 480, but the video bit rate has been doubled to 4.0Mbps for one hour of capture. The lens and 2x zoom remain the same, and the built in sharing function will now upload to MySpace as well as YouTube and AOL. Better yet, it's tiny, measuring a skinny 3.94' x 1.97' x 0.63'.
So the Flip Mino is pretty much a Flip Video with a new lick of paint, and all the better for keeping things simple. One decision, though, is a big step backwards. Flip has kicked out the AA batteries and replaced them with a non user-replaceable Li-ion cell. This has doubled the battery life to four hours, but at the expense of being able to carry spares. It'll take a minimum of two hours to recharge (using the new power adapter) or three hours plugged into a USB port. Compare that with zero hours to swap in a spare set of rechargeable AAs. In this respect, it mirrors Creative's rival, the Vado. The Mino is available now for $180.

In its battle with Sony for 1080i pistol grips, Sanyo just announced a minor, but notable update to its premium HD1000 Full HD MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 camcorder. The new HD1010 adds improved image processing and stabilization, new 'face chaser' technology for stills and video, and amusing new 300fps slow-motion mode. Nothing compared to Casio's freakish EX-F1 but a nice novelty for shooting the kids' sporting adventures. Sanyo also tossed in a new 7fps continuous still shot mode which snags images at the sensor's maximum 4 megapixel resolution. A minor bump for sure but it makes for a compelling offering at the (relatively) low asking price of $800 when it hits the US in July (Japan, June 20th).

Being the official sponsor of the Olympic Games Panasonic has announced the HDC-SD8K digital camcorder. It is not a new model but the Panasonic HDC-SD7 released last year but with a special red body paint coat and some fancy accessories. The specs remain the same as the cam records full HD video on a SDHC card it packs in a 10X optical zoom Leica lens and a 2.7 inch display. Along with the new red body color it has a matching grip belt along with an extra battery and a 8GB SDHC card so you dont miss out on any event at the Olympics. Only 150 pieces will be manufactured with each selling for 128,000 Yen ($ 1280).

We got a little hands-on time with Olympus's tiny E420 DSLR back at CeBIT, but the cam's now shipping and the crew at LetsGoDigitial put one through its paces. As you'd expect, the E420's diminutive stature won praise for being light and compact while still fitting well in the hand, but the real accolades were saved for the new Live View feature that allows for instant focusing with supported lenses and solid image sensor that delivers images on par with the more expensive Olympus E-3. The only major negatives appears to be some noise at higher ISO settings and the lack of an IS system, but those aren't necessarily major flaws -- and if you're in the market for a DSLR, the review just beyond the read link might be well worth your time.

Pure Digital is following up its Flip Video Ultra, and not a moment too soon. With Creative's Vado breathing down its neck, it was no surprise when we saw the Flip Mino surface in some leaked photos last month, and now it's gone all official-like. The Flip Mino will retail for $180, and uses a built-in rechargeable battery instead the AA cells of its predecessor. It managed to shave off 40 percent of the Video Ultra's size in the process, but the same 60 minutes of VGA video capacity are still intact. No word on exactly when this'll be available, but we're guessing it's soon.
